Bhutan: A Journey to look back on
The Rajdhani express slowed down
leaving its good pace. It was the time for all the new experiences as our
destination embraced us blissfully. I gathered my luggage and Aakash helped me
to take that out from the train, in no time we were standing on the platform
for which I was waiting for months. 'New Alipurduar’ was not only famous for
the beauty of the rich culture of West Bengal and the handcrafts of the tribes’
but also for the gateway to Bhutan.
“When in doubt… travel.” I love this
quote since I knew the real meaning of travelling. That is by no means just to
invest and rub your feet, however, to fulfil your inner self and evolve for
betterment. It was 2019 and I was with
the best two people who were as passionate about travelling as I was.
The marketplace near the railway
station was flooded with all the precise elements that grabbed our attention. I
purchased a mat crafted from bamboo and hand-stitched thereafter, which could
be rolled effortlessly. The bus gave the signal; it was a complete one hour
adventure to reach Phuntsholing, Bhutan. The grass bed underneath, the tall
coconut trees standing beside the smalls huts and the sun rays glancing out
piercing the greyish clouds were adding more beauty to it. For Indians, there
is no need for any visa up to a certain distance in Bhutan, one can definitely
delight in the glossy weather that is not biased towards any extreme.
We entered from the astonishing
Indo-Bhutan gate, which looks even more amusing when lighted colures get
featured in it. The welcoming place in Bhutan was the attraction of Zangto
Pelri Lhakhang, the famous temple for its dzong architecture, its speciality
indeed. A vicinity wherein you can pay respect to numerous deities and explore
the artistic wonders of amazingly structured statues of Bodhisattvas and
marvellous paintings of Lord Buddha, from which taking our eyes off was another
challenge.
Every view in Phuentsholing was
wonderful, nature was dancing in the waves of wind and so was our extreme
happiness. We raced to the pinnacle of the hills from where we ought to see the
residence of the ‘KING’, beautifully maintained and embellished with the
plantations. The people there were very
thoughtful and I got the privilege to get acquainted with their culture
intently that fascinated me from the time it got my attention.
“If you have a fear of anything, learn about that. Either you may break all the chains and get free from your fear or you will get to learn about yourself” Aakash quoted, not just a line, that became my lifetime learning.
Another place was the Karbandi
Monastery providing a breathtaking view of the Bengal Plain and the
Phuentsholing town. The Torsa River flowing behind was adding more splendours
in the sunset. “One should never miss
the stroll beside the Torsa River” Aakash stated while taking the images of the
temple in his own photogenic manner.
In a moment Prishu and I were walking
by the Torsa side and Aakash followed us taking pictures of every aspect of
nature. The peaceful flow of the river, the swift rub of its edges and the
gamble of the melodious music in every layer was something that was entering
deep down our hearts. There was a message for the one who could decode. We all
sat down there and exchanged our words of experience. I looked above the sky,
the approaching darkness was steadily dissolving away the twilight. Stars got
there and glowed even brighter to celebrate our accomplished journey.
I will remember the day for the rest
of my life where I explored the different culture and came out from the person
I was before, after the incredible adventure.
